The theory behind Reflexology

Reflexology is based on the notion that energy is constantly flowing around the body. When this flow of energy is compromised, it is believed that ill health may arise. Energy flow can be limited as a result of many consequences, including stress, injury, pain and lack of physical activity.

Organs, systems and glands of the body all have corresponding reflexes on the feet and hands. By stimulating these reflexes with gentle pressure, a response in the corresponding part of the body is generated. As a result, a state of relaxation, homeostasis and optimum functioning is achieved by the body. This desired outcome is obtained through stimulation of nerve impulses and the nervous system, as well as increasing blood flow. This in turn provides cells with more oxygen and nutrients as well as the removal of waste products. This phenomenon is attested by both Western & Eastern science.
